Lighthouses are another favorite subject of mine. There is so much variety among them. I spent several years as a liaison to Russian baseball players and coaches, and I discovered that Russians use their word for lighthouse for what we English speakers call the cutoff man, the player who takes a relay throw from the outfield.
As a result of this knowledge, I sometimes recall a lighthouse I’ve photographed as a relay unfolds during a baseball game I’m watching.
Come to think of it, maybe it’s no coincidence that my favorite team is the Seattle Mariners.
